Fluid Tethers and Fiber Cords explores how the cords that connect our world invisibly and simultaneously impact our environment.

An educational Youtube video that documents the installation of fiber optic cables onto the ocean floor - the process that allows us to connect with one another via the internet - is interlaced into an unfinished landscape painting from a not-so-distant future.

Over nine minutes, the two scenes unfold, combine, and collapse together to create a collage of images that visualize the ecological complications that arise from our need for tech-based connectivity.

Exhibited at The Gallery at The Factory / St Petersburg, Florida . 2023

Fluid Tethers and Fiber Cords was created through FeverDreamScapes.

FeverDreamScapes is a collaborative series experimenting with painting and video to create an uncanny effect. Through the integration of old and new media, video artist Keaton Fox and painter Renee Silva come together to generate surreal landscapes of static and moving images that visualize the often paradoxical ecologies of the present.
