LANGUAGE LANDSCAPES
The Language Landscape series utilizes Google’s data visualization of the popularity of any given word over time as the starting point for a variety of amateur renderings of varied landscapes.
The line from each of Google’s line graphs determines each environmental rendering. Through this series, the lines are interpreted as natural silhouettes in the form of ocean waves, mountain peaks, city skylines, and volcano peaks.
The words from this series were pulled from Merriam Webster’s Word of the Year competition in the year 2017. By using language and visuals to create renderings of natural landscapes, the project asks how the words we popularize shape our environments - in the words we use and the images we craft.
